I bought the front hood wing from BBist for my xB. I had them painted and looking nice. Now, the only way they are installed is by 3m tape. So i did that and it looked good.

I drove out to Roswell, NM for Scion Invasion. On the way there, the passenger side piece almost fell off. The 3m tape and me seeing it right away saved the piece from being lost. I put it back on and everything was fine until I headed home.

On the way home, I was doing about 80 mph in Arizona when the passenger side piece went flying off my car. I was able to stop and retrieve it before it was ran over by a big rig, but it got quite a bit of damage to it.

Sorry for the long story, lol. Here is my question. Is there differences between 3m tape? Is 3m tape registered to a certain MPH? (I don't think registered is the word that I want to use, but hopefully someone will know what I mean).

I want to buy the BBist type I rear wing but have heard that it is installed with 3m tape also. I don't want to buy it if the 3m tape isin't going to hold it.

Thank you,

Is it the gray tape? That is the stuff I use for pretty much everything. I have a M3 style rear lip spoiler on my car and haven't had any problems. It uses just 2 thin strips of the gray stuff, but good luck trying to move the spoiler.

Maybe the surface wasn't cleaned very well when your wing was put on. I'd suggest taking the existing 3M tape off, cleaning everything extremely well, and putting on some new tape. That should secure everything pretty well for you. Good luck.

I have the bbist style rear wing and I was really hesitant to just mount it with the tape but so far no problems.

We cleaned the surface of the car and the three wing pieces with rubbing alcohol before putting the 3m tape on. I also had washed the car before doing the installation. The 3m tape that I used had the red backing. I bought it from Auot Zone I think.

I don't think that I can get the one piece repaired before this weekend, so I have to take off the other two pieces.
