View Full Version : Seeking: Automatic Shift Knob
I'm looking for an aftermarket shift knob for my automatic transmission XB. I've seen some on ebay but there not quite what i'm looking for. It also should have an overdrive off button. Does anyone have pictures of them installed too?
im with ya on the ebay knobs, i too am wondering what else is out there.

I went to the National Street Rod Association Nats north this weekend and Genieshifter was there, they have a whole lot of shift knobs on their website.
Try genieshifter.com they may have something for you that will work.

I can not even figure out how to take the stock one off. I don't want to twist. I'm afraid there are wires in there that would pull apart.

The manual transmission on Scions is 12MM and the automatic is 8MM!
That should help you out in finding a shift knob. If anything you can go to lows and buy a spacer to go from whatever to 8MM for it to fit properly!

The OD switch wires are there. I plan to relocate my OD button to the console or dash. I only turn it off in the winter anyway.

Yup. See above. You'll need to disconnect the switch or cut the wires.

You can buy some auto shift knobs but they don't look as good. You'll probably end up modding a manual knob with a bushing or use some longer set screws and drill a dimple in the inner rod to secure the knob to the shaft.

one of our guys just did this, he got a universal push down shift knob and boot, they unplugged the OD and just left it then cut the shaft about an inch. looks cool you, just push down to shift to drive, hell mechanics at a toyota dealership here were wondering where his clutch pedal was and where he relocated it too.....

its really easy...
take out the 2 screws behind the shifter cover
pull up on the shifter
you can either cut the od wires or unplug the wires from the base of the shifter.. to unplug them you will have to remove the center console, and find the wires around the shifter base... its a blue plug if memory serves me correctly... unplug it (this wire controls the led and the od button)
pull the shifter cover all the way off
Cut the white shaft by about an inch or so (we did 1.5 inches) and the out the new shifter on... you will have to keep cutting it till the new shifter fits.
then screw it down.
then test by putting your foot on the brake and see if it shifts.. if it doesnt... well i dont know what to tell u
your done...
also after you remove the stock shifter cover you might want to get a boot for it... the plain steel isnt very nice looking.
