My XB is an '04 and has less than 37,000 on it...for some reason after a trip from OK to Michigan and back..something in the engine or under the engine, somewhere in that area makes a rough/rattling sound when in gear...only when in gear though, not when coasting or idling. It kinda sounds like a hole in a muffler..like a rattle..i know terrible descript...

It doesn't affect the driving or anything, just sounds bad...i haven't a clue what it is, I'm new to the Scion and really need help.

I know this isn't a car garage, but maybe just maybe someone could help me out.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this.

Check that your midpipe/cat is not hitting the underbrace support. I had the same issue when i bent my exhaust system, I just bent the brace and fixed the exhaust system and everything is working nicely.

There are a few heat shields that are on the car that rattled on mine. I just removed them all, there are 3 on the exhaust line and one in the engine compartment. Removed mine after about 13,000 because they rattled like hell, probably because I drive like hell!
