gotta be careful as the factory speakers are rated higher than 4 ohm. I looked on my wiring diagram and cannot find out what ohm rating they are. I do remember that they are higher than 4. As for what speakers, buy what sounds good to you. Go to a good shop, listen to all kinds of speakers and pick the ones you like. Me? I have cerwin vega seperates in front and rockford 5.25 inchers in the back.

What I'm worried about is that they will sound different in the store powered by and aftermarket HU than they will the stock Pioneer HU.

I'd go with a component set up front(6.5" in doors and tweeters in dash) and 5.25"s in the back. Since your only replacing speakers and not adding any amp I'd specifically search for cheaper speakers(cheap tweeters can sometimes sound pretty bad so try to at least listen to them before you buy), they generally won't require as much power so that you'll come closer to driving them to their max output straight from the deck. Just about anything should sound as good or better than the stock speakers did......seems like I saw some DUB speakers at Pep Boys that were pretty cheap, and were a component set even! Don't worry about what brand you get, people can't see them once their behind the factory grills. :pilot:

but they can hear them, the more u spend the better quality and purity of the music you hear. running a 4 channel amp to them will also help because you dont want to underpower your speakers. think about this. your factory headunit is running less that 50x4 and a door speaker will want more. so run a amp even a small one and it wont be underpowered.

Unless you're stuck on running the OEM deck, I'd opt to spend your money on putting in a new deck and keeping the old speakers instead. The end result will be better sound.
Like stated above, aftermarket speakers want power and the OEM won't be able to give them that.

Sorry Steven I understand your reasoning on this but I gotta disagree with this statement. Many manufacturers overcharge for their product simply because of the brand name on it, brand names don't guarantee greatness. These super expensive component speaker sets are a scam, they are pretty good up to a point but they never justify the cost, Ive built many speakers(the drivers themselves) and I assure you that for the more expensive ones I never sprinkled any magic dust on it to make it worth any more......it was built the same as the cheaper ones. of course certain technologies and materials can run the cost up but not anywhere near the levels that some manufacturers think we should have to pay. Since acoustics are different in every mounting location in every model of car how does the speaker know how to produce what sounds best for where it's placed........it doesn't and would still need to be equalized to sound right so why spend all that money? Just something to think about.

I would have to agree and disagree on this statement. If you have heard of Phoenix Gold then you know that inside the crossovers of their component systems they have adjustments where it says where you have placed thespeakers and where the tweeters are placed and facing. i do agree on the statement because every car is different and air space and angles are all different in vehicles. so this option that PG offers in their speakers helps a lot but nothing can ever be exact. unless........you were to build the speakers into the car and listen to where you place them and wat are the best angles to face each and ever speaker, but that would take a crap load of time and money. some peeps can and some cant. oh well.

Having those speakers might make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but yes I would say so.....the rules still apply, even for focal speakers.....is there a certain technology that they implement in their speakers that you like so well or is it just the name......I'm not saying by any means that they suck, they make some nice speakers....as do many manufacturers.

It sound like you only are agreeing with me, what is it that you think those adjustment on the crossover do? It's just another EQ although not very flexible but yes better than nothing I suppose.

so whats a great set of components i should get cuz i was going to get the focals
trebor

Dude, there's nothing wrong with the focals. If that's what you want then get them and enjoy! :-P All I'm saying is if you want to get all the performance from what your paying for then be sure and get a good equalizer.......and if your gonna use an equalizer to fix the sound anyways then why spend so much for high end speakers(?), unless there is a particular technology that is offered like some new technology for example that lowers distortion and isn't offered on a cheaper set of speakers......maybe I had just said it or came across wrong in my post.......
I don't keep up with whats popular in car audio anymore but was in a car audio shop the other day buying some wire and saw some speakers that seem to have a lot of cool new technologies in them, I have no idea how much they costs but if their not too expensive then you might consider checking them out.....they're called Arsenal by JVC....supposed to be their higher end line....they have a 6.5" component set that seemed pretty cool to me, you might check them out......I'll admit I don't have any idea how much component sets cost these days.

somewhat on topic....i was going to get some 4-way pioneers and the 6.5's for the doors are 2.5" deep...clearance ok?

I would go with an MB Quart full setup I used to have em in My Type S and they sounded incredible they also have adjustable crossovers. Now the only drawback is that you will need to spend a little bit more because these speakers are hand made in Germany, but i can full advocate the greatness of these speakers, also i would recommend buying a decent 4 channel amp to power the speakers, because if you want them to last, running them straight through the stock HU runs the risk of burning them out faster, not to mention the obvious fact that you won't get anywhere near the potential without the amp. You can also get an Amp and power your stock speakers, which are fairly decent to begin with and just spend your money on a better HU, decisions, decisions.....

i dont know about you guys but im eventually gonna go pioneer 6.5's and 5.25's there not rediculously priced depending which ones you want. And 4 channel them to the swtock headunit, and get a rca adpter for around 50 bucks so i can keep the stock 6 disc, i love the stock radio, i had an aftermarket pioneer in it, but i took it out because i love the way the factory 6 disc is.

well i just installed pioneer 3 ways up front and cerwin vegas in the rear.
rca adapter was already put in the back so i ran rca to precision power 1250 and to a competition optidrive 12.....it sounds damn good.
just wish i could put an amp on the mids and highs without pulling the deck???

BoostedBox06,
I liked the Discus(?) series when I heard them in a local shop so I picked up the front door, rear door, and a 4x800 MBQ amp....at least I think the amp was 200 each. Can't remember now.
Although, on the bad side, I originally picked them up for my camry which was recently replaced with my xB. So now I have a set of 6x9's. Any thoughts on where they could go in the car? Or am I better off just selling them and picking up a second set of the 6.5's? I was looking forward to the 6x9's because someone said they'd handle the lower tones better than 6.5's due to the increased surface area.
The sound is so rich and using a frequency test cd I had I found them to have a better range then the other speakers I was comparing them to.
Man I gotta get those puppies loaded in my car. I so need to listen to some heavy trance with those....thanks for the reminder.
