I wanted to upgrade my stock tweeters. They are sounding horrible and crackling a lot, but I'm not sure what brand to get to replace them. I did a quick search on ebay but I can't tell which ones are the junk ones and which are decent. Any input would be great.

I am also looking to buy a capacitor as well. Not sure what info I need when shopping for one of these. I have 3 amps in the car. 1 is for the 2 12" subs and the other 2 amps are for the door speakers. Any info on this and recommended brands would be great.

Let me know what you guys have and like.

Also my friend said I should look into getting a crossover??? I was trying to run my other amp but it doesn't have any rca outs to plug in. I only have one input on the back of my radio.

Ok. just a warning this is going to be long winded.

Ok. for the tweeters i would recommend getting a good set of component speakers. I personally like the JL C5's, Focals, and Boston Z's. The reason your factory tweeters sound bad is you probably blew the bass blocker thats attached to them. so get a set of components and you'll be good to go.

I personally don't like capacitors. I'd do a Big 3 upgrade and you should be ok. I just feel like capacitors are a band aid for the whimpy wires they run from the alternator. but if you really want a capacitor i recommend an AlumiPro capacitor. They're a little pricier but i've never had one go bad.

Personally i also dislike crossovers. I would suggest doing Line output converters if you're opposed to upgrading the radio to something that has all 3 outputs. I've found that crossovers tend to and more noise and hum to most systems.

Just my $.02.

What is a Big 3 upgrade??? Thanks for all the info I will def get some component tweeters than. Will I have to run those with the amp or can I hook it up to stock????

I would def run the components off the amp. The big 3 upgrade is adding thicker wire from the output of the alternator to the + side of the battery, the ground off the - side of the battery, and the ground of the alternator. Basically you can use 4 gauge or 0 gauge wire ontop of the existing factory wires. The Big 3 puts less strain on the alternator and makes it more efficient.

And the components are not just tweeters, the components will replace the factory door speaker and the tweeter

ooo ok that sounds like a interesting mod. Could I just use 4 gague from home depot???

As for door speakers I replaced them already with some 240Watt Kenwood speakers so I only want to replace the tweeters them selfs. I did find these and they look to be good.

I think you could. Stranded 4 gauge will work

also those tweeters would work of the stock radio. i think if you put them to an amp and crank it to rock out to some good tunes it might blow the bass blocker kinda like what happened with your factory tweeters.

So grab those ones hook it to factor and I will be all set?? Sounds like a plan, I might look into the components speakers though. I heard they were hard to tune though. I have to build a mdf support to instal them into the doors as well. I've seen some people with them. I did not have the money to grap them when I was replacing the speakers. Would it sound weird if I did 2 components in the front doors and have the Kenwoods in the rear doors??

Also I could not find that brand of capacitor you said AlumiPro???

Is the Big3 upgrade hard? I did a grounding kit on the car would it be similar to that?

sorry spelled the cap name wrong its AlumaPro http://www.alumapro.com/homepage.htm
the capacitor is called The C.A.P.

If you get the full components which is a woofer and a tweeter they come with a special crossover that does the proper splitting of sound frequencies for you and you hook up your amp to the crossover. they aren't hard to tune at all. and then you could move the kenwoods to the rear doors. i think doing the full set of components would be the way to go and would sound way better off an amp then hooking the tweeters you posted off the just factory wiring. factory radios never put out enough power for aftermarket speakers or even factory speakers.

Also when doing the rings for the speakers never ever use wood, mdf, or anything like that. they absorb water and rot and cause mold. i use plexi when i do them or some kind of plastic. plus after a while the wood will rot enough that you'll heard it rattling. when you put the plastic or plexi rings in put like weather stripping or some kind of sound deadening on it between the plastic/plexi and the metal of the door. if you don't you get a nice squeaking noise.

The big 3 upgrade is not hard at all. just make sure you have enough wire to route around the engine and big crimp ring terminals and you should be set. I think there's a how too somewhere on Scikotics or another scion forum. can't remember

hope my rambling helps lol

You are def helping me out a lot and I appreciate the input.

I found these seems like a good deal
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JBL-P650C-6-5-Component-Car-Speakers-6-1-2-Tweeter-New_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2a03b61d9aQQitemZ18 0450893210QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo#ht_4096wt_941

I will look for those rings on ebay or is there a site/ home made way to do it. I can probably just use the kenwoods somewhere else in the car. I have Sony explodes in my hatch part and they are sounding like ass so 2 can go there. Plus I bought the extra warranty on the kenwoods.

I will most likely get that combo do the front doors, then save up more and hit the back doors.

I will search for the write up somewhere. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Those speakers look like a pretty good deal. not a big fan of JBL myself but they do make some pretty good speakers.
The rings you're looking for are called spacer rings. i personally make them but you should be able to find some online somewhere.
The rear doors you could do a good pair of coaxials to fill in the rest. but sounds like you've got a good plan going
And glad i can help. any other questions feel free to hit me up.
