Anyone heard or confirmed this defect in the intake on RS 3.0 that causes an annoying wind whistling?

It's not the intake, it's the body kit itself.

when i had mine i noticed a whistling noise at high speeds. i thought and pretty sure it was coming from the glass deflector. im pretty sure it was because i had my roof open and it ended up shattering due to defect.

:ponder: i wonder if the bumpers i get will already have whatever this is on them or not... either way i think my current grills will look better then the RS3 intake grill...

I've talked to 3 RS 3.0 tC owners - they all hear a whistling. It's the bumper and body kit.

really though how bad/loud is it anyway, I've never heard a sound clip or anything, i still like the kit though, i can get over a noise, its not like the tC is completely quiet. but my point of view is most likely different then what a normal RS3 owner would feel about it.

its pretty bad at high speeds. sounds like a window is cracked or something

Unless my music is really loud, I can definitely hear the whistling at 65-70+ mph. I cannot get confirmation from my dealership and would appreciate it if anyone does get confirmation. Prior posts on SL show that alot of RS 3.0 owners have changed their windshield, sunroof, and moldings, all with no effect.

im pretty sure is going to have to do with the lip grills been open and the bumper grills been closed, at high speeds it creates turbalance in there and it might cause it to whistle, i think all you have to do is take off the bumper grills and see what happens.

As the poster in the above linked SL thread stated, there is an official fix from Scion. I would rather go that route than making personal mods.

That's what I said - it's probably the lip kit.

Jimmy, you have access to the toyota comps cant you pull up a TSB for the RS3s?

how about we go take the one in the show room for a spin and hear it for ourselves.

i have the same problem and toyota has issued a TSB i work in a shop and got access to it what they appear to be doin is removing that rubber weather stripping on the bumper when u open the hood its 8 screws and there adding clamps behind the grille to hold that insert in there better to reducse the air coming in.. i contacted toyota and have the kit on order so when it comes in ill post if it fixes it.. i have removed that rubber weather stripping since i saw that TSB and the majority of the noise is gone

Awesome, I will try to get my dealership moving on it since it's verified. :)

Update: (from SL thread)

I called Scion Experience about this issue and was told that repair instructions has been issued. Talk to your Toyota service department about Technical Service Bulletin: NV010-07 which addresses the problem. Turned in my car in today to get this fixed... and while it's there, I'm getting it slammed as well ;-)

What is the RS 3.0 exactly? all I know is mine is an 07 tC and when I first got it, it was super quiet. Now when i get to about 70, it makes the loude whistling noise and there is also alot of wind noise with all the windows cloased. The noise sounds like its coming from the roof and the roof also makes alot of creaking noises (esp. on speed bumps or other shift in the road that makes the car flex)

It's the release Series 3.0 tC - the Blizzard Pearl white tC with the Kenstyle bodykit on it.

ok, I don't have that one but I still have the whistling noise and the top also creaks and shifts alot. Any thing that can be done ?

yeah, im having that same problem as well. it makes a loud, annoying whistle noise anytime i go over 80. guess im just going to have to slow down!

but im definatly checking the weather stripping under the hood, because ive noticed that right in the middle, its loose and has no pins holding it down.

(i drive a 08 Tc BTW)

Yes, the whistling is coming from the bodykit on the RS 3.0 tC.

It's not really as bad as some people are making it out to be... Well mine isn't at least.

Now I can't even hear it with my header, exhaust, intake setup.:mrv:
