I was wondering if someone could help me. I want to smoke my taillights but I have no idea how. I see things I can buy on ebay that seems to be some type of sticker? I dunno... I am worried about bubbles. Help!

I used www.headlightarmor.com on my xB. They sell some for the tC too. Theyre like $40 shipped, looks good on mine. The bubbles go away after awhile but you can still see it a bit up close. It was better than painting them and then fucking up and regretting it.

I put them on myself, if you don't have a steady hand and patience, get someone else to do it haha. The stuff on the back is like superglue. Id try to put it on slowly then it would get stuck and there would be a big bubble and i had to rip it off again and redo it, and you have to heat it up with like a blow dryer to make it pliable. Most of the bubles went away but next time if you see my car I missed one corner because its a little crooked... But I dont know about them tCs it might be easier?

This is mine, its what they call a "stealth smoke"* on that site.

Btw, they had this promotion going on for scionlife.com or something. If you snoop the forums you might find the code somewhere, it might be way past the promo date though. It was like a 5% discount but whatever!

HaHa... Thanks... I am about to get my snoop on! Yeah, I am definitely not patient enough to do it myself. I think the tC lights would be harder than the xB since they are more round. I am down to paying someone to do it for me. Let me know if anyone is interested. =)

to get a good result on vinyl overlays on a tc taillights, you have to take them out from the car and work on it on your laps. plus use a hair dryer, and a pin to get the bubbles out.

I VHTed the tails and side markers on my xB and am somewhat happy with the results. The biggest downside of VHT is that it has a purplish brown color to it when in the direct sun. Looks great when the sun goes down though. I will eventually replace all of mine with some that are tinted professionally.

Does the light shine through at all?

It actually does....running lights during the day are not to visible but when I brake you can pretty much see it lol...although I dont see my car from behinde when braking to much. As far as at night there just as bright.

EDIT: IDK if you can see it, maybe just me but I actually have my running lights on in the first pic opposed to the second.

Also for 08 XBs i dont think there are overlays yet but I dont even think they will be made. If i remember correctly, dont the lights bubble out alot? If that is the case then your best bet would be to smoke them with paint/clear.

and it IS technically illegal but I've had mine for almost 1.5 years and I've never been pulled over. Even with the stealth smoke (which I think looks rad) its very visible even during the day.

i always see cars with painted tails and i can NEVER tell if its their brake lights or if their lights are just on.

Did you do the light smoked? smoked? or stealth smoked?

VHT is VHT, you get different tint levels depending on how many coats you spray. I did mine pretty light - would likely be considered a light smoked / smoked. Like I said before, I'm not happy with the purplish brown shade that they have when in direct sun. When the sun goes down or they're in the shade, they look great. Amazingly, I can't find any pictures of mine. Seems all the pictures I take of mine are at night . . .

Then on the left taillight there is a wrinkle that Pinkie accidently made. I might just keep these overlays on for the winter and paint them in the spring.... *sigh*.... We have a nice clear coated finished tint for your tails. Wont damage your lights, will be shiny and also protect them from breaking. (insert driving in reverse)

The problem with the spray is the shae is hard to get even, smooth and glossy. Plus if you live in a State with a lot of Sun (insert AZ) it will last about a year and they are so faded. Plus when you strip the spray tint off you can ruin your lights.

Good luck

Just in case anybody is still trying to find VHT somewhere, http://www.modernperformance.com/all/nite_shades_tint.shtml sells it, $20 for a two pack + $5 shipping. Im still trying to decide whether i should spray tint or go vinyl overlay. Im mostly worried with the spray tint about getting it even and having a nice smooth finish.

RockBlocker

Yes it is. However if you had read our site you would see that our film is not a sticker. That wont work on most tails and look good. We use high impact resistant 20 mil thick clear coated films to protect, color and keep shiny for years to come.

Sticker is 7 mil or less, will fade usually in a year and wont bend with a light such as the box tail without a relief cut or wrinkle.

I have VHT Nightshades on my turn signals(in side view mirror) and 3rd brake light... There's alot of work that goes into making VHT look right... wet sanding, reapplying, clear coating.... then I sat around polishing over and over to smooth it all out and shine it up before I put it back on my car. And I still have to deal with it fading.

I didn't like the thought of the overlays until I watched a friend of mine at a local shop put a blue film on my friends xA's headlights... it looks much better and significantly less aggravating... I'm waiting for a local shop here to get the right colors in and I'm having them do an eyelid with a blue film on my headlight...

i'm looking for some TYC's to paint, so if anyone has some they want to give up or trade for some stock red ones let me know. but here in ca if you get pulled over i'm pretty sure it would only be a fix it ticket which means you borrow one of your scikotic friend's tails, get a cop to sign it off, and pay $10 then put yours back in and do it all over...unfortunately that is the life of modifying...believe me i've been a mini trucker for the last 5+ years...i've definately had my share of $10 tickets!!!
