They are both scams. The concept of electric supercharging has been around for years but there isn't a practical system that's as efficient as a traditional supercharger.

Turbochargers spin at roughly 75,000 to 150,000 rpm's to move enough air to boost the engine. Superchargers don't spin quite that fast, but they are really good at actually compressing the intake air charge. This is simply a tube with a fan it it. I highly doubt those fans spin fast enough to act as a "supercharger". These have actually proven to reduce horsepower since it causes turbulence in the air flow coming into the engine.

An important note about the electric supercharger in metalcoffin's article is that the guy had several batteries connected to get enough power to spin the motor at speeds that generate any boost. The OP's supercharger most likely just connects to the OEM battery.
