I'm thinking of buying a injen cai or weapon r secret weapon intake but does anyone else have different opinions? I want a intake that adds some hp and noise

I guess short ram intakes are supposed to be noisier. I have the weapon R and I like the way it sounds a lot.

Go with the Injen - Full CAI has better gains.

Intakes look pretty, that is about it. They give you 1-4 additional horsepower depending on the intake and your car, but that isn't enough to feel. It will sound louder, but you won't feel any difference in acceleration by getting only an intake.

k&n typhoon system worked the best for me with the other mods i have.... injen is best if thats the only performance mod you're doing.... but if you add a header then the typhoon by far is better

What's your basis on that statement? Why wouldn't the Injen be just as good or better? Injen has larger intake piping than the K&N so the engine can breathe more.. With a header the engine can push more air out too....

Word^^!! Jus curious, :ponder: has anyone cut a hole in their bumper for the CAI?? If so, I'd like to see some pics of that. Was thinking about running some kind of piping from the little grill right under it, mabe put some kind of screens to keep bugs out... Any thoughts on that??

I think Noogster did it on his.
Just remove the false grilles and you're fine.

I don't want water to get in there tho. I actually bought my intake from someone who hydrolocked his motor with it. (not that there is anything wrong with it) Had the AEM bypass on it when he did it.

WTF did he drive through? A lake?
He had to have driven through some serious water in order to do that. Having the false grille open wouldn't make a difference.

We had some flooding late in the spring. He said a semi truck passed him and threw water all over his car, it bogged down real bad and then it died. He (or the dealership) broke the camshaft trying to get it started. I've seen the AEM bypass video they made, showing the filter fully submerged in water, is it possible he got alot of water under the hood and into the bypass??

First of all - it doesn't take much to suck water into an intake.
I hydrolocked my accord driving through a puddle that was maybe 3" deep. If enough water gets on the filter, you're gonna get some in the cylinders, and shits gonna break. That's why I have the tC - the accord was gone. Funny thing was - that 3" puddle sucked up so much water into my engine, that I pulled the spark plugs and cranked the engine and shot fountains of water from my motor. I changed the oil and it was lighter colored than chocolate milk - it was bad. All from a 3" deep puddle. No shittin.
Second, pulling out your false grille won't do shit - the engine is going to draw in the air it needs no matter what - the difference in passing air over the filter and allowing the engine to draw in air by itself isn't going to do shit for hp. It'll make your car look ridiculous from the outside, and you've given water a new way in.
The best performance will ALWAYS come from a short ram if it's done right - think of it like breathing through a snorkel. The longer the snorkel is, the more resistance there is to the flowing air (because of surface area). Short rams draw air from the outside and get it to the engine with little resistance. This is the same logic they use when doing ITB (individual throttle bodies) - the air is readily available for the motor, and it doesn't snake through any piping to get there.
The main disadvantage of the short ram is the hotter ambient temperatures, but that can be solved by insulating wrap and a heatshield. If you insulate a weapon r and surround the filter with a heat shield, you'll see better gains than a CAI throughout the entire RPM band - the engine can get the air it needs without having to wait for it to wind it's way through a soda-straw.
Plus, I'm pretty sure the Injen and Weapon R dyno'd like 8-10whp on the tC....not 1-4. And the K&N was said to screw up the stock air/fuel ratio...
If you want an intake, get the Weapon R - modern technology with benefit for future mods. But whatever you get, don't start cutting holes in your car - you WON'T see any new gains.

The club's got some discounts with Weapon-R, but personally i've seen some shoddy workmanship from them. I'd stick to Injen.
And yes, Short rams work with hotter ambient temperatures, but still, air flowing from the fender well is still cooler than air inside the engine compartment. Especially for me and the turbo.

if youre turbo, it matters even less what temperature the air is around the filter - if it's hot, you're intercooled - problem solved. If you're not intercooled, then the cold air would just get hot anyway.
Air passing over the filter causes low-pressure outside of the intake, which is effectively trying to draw air out. Like that science trick, where you blow over the end of a straw sitting in a glass of water, and you spray the water everywhere. Cold vs. hot makes very little difference when it comes to N/A. However, if you're boosted, you want that air as cold as possible - but that all happens after the air passes through the hot ass turbo, so it doesn't matter what temperature it is outside the turbo...it matters how effective your intercooler is, and whether or not you're using a chiller bar or Cry02 system.
For maximum hp potential, stick with short ram.

..... True. I didn't think of that. Duh.. hot-side turbo :p
