View Full Version : Monitor Help Please!
Well, I just finished installing a 26" monitor in the rear of my xD. Redid the sub system as well. Got it all up and running tonight, and I have lines in my picture. I'm assuming due to the length of the video feed running all the way to the rear of the car, that I need a video signal booster. But, not certain and no idea what is the best for this application. I'm running the stock Scion Nav head unit from 2008.
Here's what the pic is lie, you can see the lines, and they keep floating and rolling through the pic.

That's def a ground loop issue
It can possibly be 2 things.
1) you need to fix the ground. Try putting a cheater plug (which removes the ground pin) and see if the lines go away. If it does go away try redoing the inverter ground or leave the cheater plug on.
2) What kind of video wire is it? Length shouldn't effect it unless its running next to high power lines.

Not sure it's from the inverter... when I run the video game system on a direct feed the pic is fine...
I ran the video line down the right side of the car with the RCA lines for the stereo, all the power lines for the amps run down the left side...
Basically it's monster cable video...

Have you tried any other cable and running it direct to see if the llines are still there? If the lines are still there its an output issue. If they go away its prolly the cable.

No I don't have another cable that long... LOL
Thans tons for the ideas! It's appreciated!

Not a problem. Though since you said that it works fine with a video game system directly in makes me think its either a bad cable ore its an output problem at the headend.

My take is the HU just don't have the juice to push the signal that far... but I'll pick up another long cable and hook it up to test that it is not the cable.
I'm pretty sure that is not the deal. but....
Anyone have any recommendations on the best way and/or best product to use for boosting the video signal?

Here are some signal boosters examples http://m.nextag.com/video-signal-booster/products-html
Also radio shack prolly has some kind of booster that will work.
I've been thinking and I don't think its the headunit cause the distance to your tv is about the same as if you routed the wire to aflip down screen or even some head rest monitors (give or take maybe a foot) so I don't think the headend is the problem but you never know.
Hope my rammbling has helped

For sure... I also have a flip down in the rear seat, so the video feed is split at the head unit. That may be an issue as well?
I appreciate the help and the ideas! Thanks!

That is definitly a possibility. Try removing the flip down and splitter from the mix and see if the line go away. If they do go away try it with just the splitter and the tv only plugged in and if the lines come back then the splitter is the issue. In the case you can get a 1-4 video amplifier and that should solve the problem

I already did that. First thing. I pulled the second monitor, pulled the splitter and ran the monitor in the rear direct. Same issue. So it's either the cable or the signal needs boosted. Or, it could be a ground issue still I suppose, and it just isn't bad enough to show up unless the signal is weak... Experimentation shall continue... LOL

Does the lines show up on the flip down screenDo the lines also appear on the flip down screen?
Wish I knew... It was not working at all... even if I put a DVD into it. Have to look into this more tonight after work...
The flip down screen is toast. Tried running off the Aux, the vid in, just playing a DVD in it, nothing but a blue screen. Good news, is it's under warranty so it went back to day to be repaired or replaced....
Picked up a signal booster, still had the lines, so grabbed a new cable and wala, all better. I wasn't thinking when I bought the one I used, it was not a automotive shielded cable, so I sprung for the Monster Cable 5 meter video made for use in cars... Problem all gone!
Thanks for all the help and ideas Josh and Michael!
