Ok I was trying to post in the DIY section but it was not letting me for some reason, so maybe a administrator can move this there after. Thanks

Ok guys I wanted to make my own shifter knob instead of buying one at the store. I don't like some of them, and I wanted to put my own touch on it. Here are the steps I went through to make mine. Use this as a guideline to making yours.

Materials List:
1. item for your shifter
2. (2) M12-1.25 hex nuts
3. blue painters tape
4. a drill and 3/8" bit
5. Dremel with grinding attachment
6. 17mm socket and ratchet
7. fix-a-stick (optional)

Step 1
Find a item that you want to make your shifter knob out of.

My car is a Nintendo theme so I found these mushroom powerups at a Hot Topic store for $3 each. I use to have a Ba-Bomb as my shifter but this way I can change it for different car shows.

Step 2
Go to autozone and get yourself a package of M12-1.25 hex nuts

This will fit the Scion xA not sure about xB or TC , but I think it will. The package says its for Asian Vehicles so I would assume.

Step 3
Get yourself some blue painters tape, and tape off the bottom of your object

Step 4
Take your nut and place it over the center of the bottom of the object and with a sharper trace a circle where you will cut.

Step 5
Go get yourself a drill and use a 3/8" drill bit

Step 6
Drill your hole and than peel the tape off. The blue tape helps to protect your item incase you slip with the drill you won't scratch it.

Step 7
Your going to use a dremel with a grinding bit on the end. This is to get all the frayed edges from drilling.

Step 8
Now go out to your car and unscrew your old shifter knob. You will then be left with just the shaft of the shifter.

Step 9
Now take your first nut and screw it on till it is at the bottom of the threads.

Step 10
Now place your item over the shifter hole. If it does not fit go back with the dremel and make it a bit wider, you want a snug fit not too lose so the shifter knob won't move side to side too much.

You can always add a washer here, but the nut was large enough I didn't need to.

Step 11
Get yourself a rachet and a 17mm attachment
http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/ad126/russlyman/DIY%20Custom%20Shifter/STP60620.jpg
Than put your other nut on the thread and tighten it down sandwiching the 2 nuts in-between the piece.

Alternative Way
If you do not want to use the sandwich method you can always take some
Fix-a-Stick from Lowes or bondo puddy and secure the nut on the inside of the base so you and just twist it on and not see the bottom nut.

You might have to use this way if you can not separate your item in 2 half's like I did.

Just drill a small hole on the bottom of the item and glue the nut into it.

Step 12
Put your top back on and you have a brand new shifter knob.

Pretty easy mod but I don't like the nut showing so I'd have to have something that covers it if I did that.
