There's nothing in xB air box to remove except maybe the filter (not recommended). I have seen some butcher jobs where guys have tried to modify their stock air box to increase flow. They didn't end well.

I'd say save for the intake. In the grand scheme of mods they aren't that expensive. It is also a good confidence booster since it is easy.

Also, an intake is a piece of metal piping, dont let anyone convince you otherwise. Getting the $400 name brand intake isnt going to make "more power" over one you cna pickup for $60-80 on ebay. In fact - neither are going to make much of a real power diff. Youll notice a diff in sound which many people do like (def sounds better than stock imho) but no real power gain. So dont waste your money on a $400 intake.

I did just that on my 06 xB - $19 on eBay got me the tube and the cone filter - then bought a tiny filter at a local auto store (this tube didn't have a nipple welded on - this way works fine)

Yeah boyeeee!!! :) Sounds good :)

Then I saw this post (below) - what you can run into from buying those 'name brand' jobs - WEAK!!!!!!

Anyone else ever run into this with their Fujita CAI? Hopefully they will cover this under their 10 year warranty. And yes, that is a hole and crack where the bracket should be.

...turns out "Fujita" sent this guy a replacement - but - should that have happened on a $200 pice of equipment? Nope.... The one I got I do notice a cool sound when I 'get on it' - but by no means am I popping wheelies in reverse ;)

I also say go with the cheapies BUT - be sure to ask what all they come with - some places won't send you EVERYTHING you need and you'll find yourself at ACE hardware looking for screws, brackets, etc...

Good luck bro! :)

i've got the K&N typhoon series cai, K&N did a dyno test on a stock xb and got a 10 hp. increase and 8.5ft. lb. tq. at the front wheels. i like mine, you may want to check it out before you buy.

I would just be careful with the cheap ebay intakes. yes they are all just metal pipes but I had one on my previous car and the fitment was terrible. as long as the fitment is good and you have a decent filter you should be good
