I bought this Clarion (I know awesome price tho) 2nd (I know thats my 2nd mistake) anyhow I attempted to connect it the other day to make sure it works. I didnt get power to it my question is WHY?
Heres what I did:
I took it out of the box attached the black neg wire to my negative battery terminal
Then I attached the red power wire to my positive battery terminal
I got nothing. No power I checked the detachable face and got nothing. The little red light wasnt even on.
Then:
I disconnected the ground and placed the yellow memory and then the ground wire back to the neg terminal and still got nothing.
So what do you think is it dead or am I connecting it wrong?? All help is welcome please.. Thank you.

Yes I did connect it to the 12-. Let me ask you a question wouldn't still power up if the memory wasnt connected? Does connecting the memory matter??
BTW love the avatar..

Is it the fuse on the HU itself blown?

Actually Nick there is no fuse on the HU. on the back there are 2 sets of RCAs in/out, a red/yellow/black wire together, and another black wire labled "IR" thats all that is there...

call in sick!!! thats what those days are for! use em
hahahaha, j/p. But I am pretty sure there should be a fuse on the back of the unit. All the HU installs that I have done, always had fuses on the back. Is there a spot for one? other than that I wouldn't know why it wouldn't power up that way.

no there isnt a spot for a fuse on the back.. The guy I bought it told me to check the face beings its detachable it may not be on right. I told him I didnt detach the face once since he gave it to me. He said it worked before he sold it and doesnt know why it wont now.

the yellow wire must be connected to 12V+ there should only be 3 wires on the back, yellow 12V+, black ground, and red 12V+.
try this PDF file for the install manual from Clarion:
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/MungoBlobs/256/908/VS735.pdf
Also try resetting the system behind the faceplate with a bent paperclip.

I had attempted to reset it but that didnt do anything either.. There is 3 wires a yellow, a black , and a red. I will reconnect it and see what happens..

Greg thanks man I am off tomorrow so I am going to try it that way and see if it will power up. I am also gonna use a bent paperclip to reset the HU beings I didnt use a bent paperclip, therefore making me think I may not have reset it. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.. Thanks for the manual link that helps considering the guy I bought it from didnt include it.
Thank you..

**Update**
I attempted this again.. I put the red to the pos and balck to the neg and the yellow to the pos. I got a hissing sound like a disk spinning in a cd player but thats all not lights no nothing... I then accidentally touched the HU to the pos term of the battery.. damm wires are way too short, there is a little burn on the corner thats all.. Did I fry it by touching it??
Should I just call it dead and go buy another??
Thanks
Tim

I dunno Tim, maybe one of us can take a look at it soon to see if something is really wrong with it, its kinda hard to tell if its totally fried or not. And by touching the HU to the POS batt terminal really only melted the corner if it didn't touch any metal parts. We should set up a meet or something soon before you decide to leave and go back to FL with a potentially broken HU.
