How hard is it to solder such small LED's? I want to change the ugly orange in mine but I got the instrument panel apart and I got really scared of messing up the circuit board

1*BA*RSTC07- Its not very hard if you have the patience and steady hand.

tml-Tc- I used some tweezers and pulled up little by little while unsoldering the small Led.

ntwrkguru- i went to Oznium.com the PLCC2 led's are only .49 cents
The leds behind the gauge and LCD Screen are smaller than the PLCC2's, but i was able to install them and they are working great so far.

If anyone needs help with any of these, let me know ile help with a small fee..i wouldn't mind making atleast a little bit of money out of this...
All you need to supply is the Led's and the board and tell me what you want done...More than willing to help my fellow Scikotics!!

Well I've only soldered like normal size wires I'm just afraid of the surrounding heat hurting something... the steady hand and patience thing I got down

If you got that down then it should not be that hard for ya, just watch once it melts on side pull the led a bit then do the same to the other side then back and forth till they loose enough to pull out....sometimes you will need to pull them a lil hard unless you have the tool that sucks up the melted sauder (not sure if i wrote that right) that will make it easier and cleaner...

Best of luck!!!
Post pics when your done...

I solder circut boards at work for laptops all the time and usually for applications like this we either use a heat gun or an iron with a pair of tweezers....if you want something to remove the old/excess solder go to radioshack and ask them for solder wick....it works alot better than the solder removal pumps....

I did mine about 6 months ago and have had no problems. I didn't use a solder wick or pump. Instead I just left the solder there then heated it up and sat the new LED down on it. I then heated the ends of the LED to insure it was all the way down.

Those are bright. Had you considered doing anything to better difuse the light?

I don't mind having it bright...i wish i could just make them just a bit more dark blue to match the rest of the leds inside the car.
