how much weight did you lose with that new hatch? Looks descent, but weight reduction is probably why it was made. just curious.

Carbon Fiber parts are ALWAYS less weight than the original parts. I lift the CF hatch without the window and its very light, maybe 10-12lbs at the most. I didnt get to lift the original hatch but the shop said it felt like 100lbs or more with the glass in it. ALSO, i dont have the springs on the new hatch so it feels heavy right now to lift it. Kind of hard to tell. I bought it for the look anyways, not really weight reduction.

The one thing i like is that i get ABSOLUTELY NO RATTLE from the new hatch though like i did with the OEM hatch.

yeah the rattle is annoying, heard there is a remedy like double sided tape on the bumpers or something. quick question, how do you go about getting sponsorships?

it was all in the pedestal spoiler.. that thing is annoying.. and as far as sponsorship, it depends on what kinda stuff you want.

you can start with carsponsorship.com

we (SciKoticS) have a special deal with them.
E-mail Ragen:

tell him you're with scikotics and they'll work it all out for you.

Just be wary of the gauge work. Paul has been kicked off of two sites now for doing terrible work, not fixing it, ripping people off... etc. Someone took one of his clusters apart and posted pics on scionlife... the biggest, scariest looking pile of crap I have ever seen (I would have been laughed out of first semester electronics for that type of work). Wire stilts all over to do his needle lighting, solder blobs all over, etc. To make it more clear, the right way to do it is to affix the leds behind the needles on small boards that are affixed to the white bezel, then wire them into the main board with wires that are glued down and secure. I posted the link with pics of his below... it is sad really :P He is by far the last person I would recommend to do this type of work. Not to mention he was usually double my pricing and above the others I know who do good work. And the way I do it takes longer! So his hourly rate is sky high for low quality work. (not sure what you paid, but for a comparison I would have charged about $140 for that including the HVAC led swap.. even if you wanted color changing needles) If you start having issues with the gauge needles not working at all or intermittently, or the lighting failing off and on, it is because his stilts vibrate and touch the metal spindle for the needles, or they inevitably vibrate enough to break thier connections (this is almost garaunteed when soldering stuff together the way he did.. sometimes it takes a long time, sometimes a short time).

Hopefully yours stays together well. If not, good luck getting a hold of him, since he has ripped off as many as he has treated well. He is a smooth talking salesman... until you have an issue :P Not trying to scare you, just trying to get the friendly warning out there. The rest of us are already working with, or have worked with some of his customers to try and get them working again after he messed thier stuff up.

Well, you cant do a direct placement and have the needles glowing a different color like mine or his. You can repaint them, but not have the different color glow unless it is white and you use vinyl to make the gauge faces a different color. The difference between the crap paul does and what I do (besides me charging less and having real electronics training :P ) is that his looks like

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/engifineer/P1010230.jpg

and mine looks like

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/engifineer/ClusterSwap_CC.jpg

In other words.. isolated circuit, everything solidly in place with adhesive and the wiring glued to the board.

But... back to the thread :D

i basically did it through paul because he was local.. and i did it way before i heard all the bad stuff.. i believe i asked some advice on where and how to get it done (before i did it) but nobody chimed in so i found it myself.. no problems yet *crosses fingers*

how much lighter is the new Carbon Fiber hatch from the OEM ? also did your stock glass fit right in ?

1. Not sure. and i dont have the springs on it right now so it FEELS heavy. I know that the OEM HOOD was 25 pounds and the CF hood was 9 pounds. I dont know that weight for the hatch though.

2. Yes the stock glass fits right on there.. no modifications.

10-05-2007, 06:20 PM
i dont have shocks on either, but it still feels heavy. its def the glass tho. when i had just the hatch i was swinging it around in the air it was so light
