so i got this momo wheel and adapter and not that it matters on how to install, im more concerned with the breaking down of the old steering wheel, how to detach the thing and not have the airbag pop, if anyone knows how, which ive seen some pics of xbs and such with aftermarket wheels...(chain wheels, etc) you guys think you could help a brother out? write a small tech.... i searched here and scionlife, and i cannot find anything...googled it too, only thing i found was a tech on s10 forums....

Don't ask me, I haven't done it. I'm sure when Mike sees this he will be all over it.

Should be able to just unhook the battery....... atleast that is what I had done on previous cars.

so just unplug the battery and wait like 15minutes then just get into the column and tear it apart... cause im all about tearing it apart... BTW i just ordered the bmw headlights to do that conversion on that black one with shaved blinkers... w00t..

Personally, if the battery is disconnected there is no way it can deploy....... I am not 100% positive, but I am pretty sure.

pretty sure means theres still a chance im gonna get smacked in the face with a white bag much harder then a pillow.... even if the chance is but 1%..... i dont want my face any more swollen then it already has to be (i eat gooood...).. is any scikotic here actually crazy enough to go experiment and let me know what the results are.... or perhaps someone has already started on the tech and taking photos along the way... but a 100% positive answer is enough for me... then ill make a tech for the install and all with pics, it would be really helpful cause nobody has made a tech yet for it

I know a few have done it, Mike for one. He just hasn't been on since you posted this. He will most likely be on tomorrow if you can wait that long.
Just give him a chance........lol.

havent totally taken it apart al the way but i have takin off the airbag part. first i disconnected the battery. then on the back side of the steering wheel theres two allen bolts or torq head bolts, one of the two, remove thoose. then the main airbag/horn part of the steering wheel will come off. On the back of this connected to the air bag is two wires, take a flat head screw driver and and pop out the clip part and then they should just pull out of the airbag deployer?!? after that its up to you cause thats as far as i got, i was just painting the silver pieces on that piece. Hope that helps some. I kinda felt like i was in the movies when i was taking those two wires off the back "which wire do i cut, and hopefully it doesnt blow up in my face" hahaha

Make sure you don't have some bastardized Capacitor system either like the batcap system... I left the car on for an hour and I still had charge in the system.. I need to disconnect it then I'm putting on my sparco hub and wheel... Fun stuff... Don't get blown up...
