I'm a new XB owner and having fun moding my Gen II. So much so, I might be interested in showing it. I think there might be others that may feel the same way.
Maybe some of the shoe veterans came educate us?
Thanks
Hmmm... Not a bad idea!
Actually pretty easy, just clean, clean, clean and then clean some more. Cleaner the car, the better it stands out. If you can reach it with your hand, then it needs to be clean. Inside of wheels, rocker panels, wheel wells....
Most important is to get out, see the other cars, talk to the other owners, make friends, get ideas and HAVE FUN! It's mostly about getting to see some really awesome stuff, and having a blast with fellow enthusiasts!

some folks take their shows and competitions very very seriously ! I prefer having fun and hanging out with good friends myself! If your going to do this I would recommend starting with cruize ins or dealer shows as there are no big fees! Most shows cost money to provide needs for charity or profit! Its all about the social aspect though!!!
Look around Chicago and other areas talk to the dealer ship and see what they are planning. Some dealers hold them on a budget to draw crowds and sell cars! I am not sure if Toyota is gonna do that at the moment but it doesnt hurt to ask around!!??

O.K. I'm about 80% knowledgable on cleaning and I'm 100% on the FUN part.
What I don't know is the protocol. I understand roll in as clean as you can. But, then what? Is there an area to do touch ups, then you park it? Is is cool to do some cleaning once your in place? Anything that is definately wrong?

most shows you can work until the judge comes over to see you where you are parked! Where you park is where you polish and spit shine!! and do whatever else you need to do! the more you do in advance the more time you have to socialize and look around and see what everyone else is doing!
Make sure your doors are open and the Jambs are clean, so the judge can see inside!
Hood up so they can see the engine compartment and that it is clean also!
Trunk open and the back is clean!
talk to Judges and let them know what you have done to the vehicle !
Think like ya want to sell it to them !
Usually they have about an hour before the judges start making rounds but you can work until they come inspect your vehicle! Also make sure everything is out of the vehicle except for any props you use to accent the vehicle interior or engine or trunk area!
Hope this helps some!

Good job Rando. That info is perfect. Like Rando says: Be as clean as u can but never take shows seriously as far as placing and trophies and such. We just usually use them as social gatherings and have fun. If u win something great, if not, no big deal. If u go into them with a attitude just to have fun then all is good. I have actually seen people who take it so seriously that u can't hardly carry on a decent conversation with them. Then u have the drama queens who get all crazy if they don't win anything. Just go, hang out, have a good time, and network like crazy. You can meet some of the greatest people. That's what I really enjoy, just sitting around swapping ideas and laughing my arse off.

Thanks
Next question, how do they set up classes? I have a daliy driver with just the basic bolt on stuff, nothing radical like 5Gs of sound equipment or trick paint. Is there a class for my car?

Thats an easy one !! They ususally set classes by the number of mods you have!! So the more mods the higher the class!!
You would be in the stock class which is around 1 to 7 mods or 1 to 10 depending on promoter!
Then would usually be the Mild to wild which would be 7-14 or 10-15 and then would be Extreme which of course is 14+ or 15+ I think!!
You would be stock class !
do about 6 or 7 or so and then you move up a class!
I would be in the Mild to wild in the top end!!

Looking good!!
The cleaning part sucks lol... The shows I have done in my truck or my tC I normally stay up late tuneing or tweaking then wake up around 4am to wash and wax.
Best thing you can do is arrive early and do your shines. Then WALK AWAY, lol. I hate watching people touch my car with their stick fingers and most people will have some wise crack seeing as Scion is the car brand everyone loves to hate.
Small details is what matters most. A true enthusiast will notice the small things and see how well they tie the whole piece together. The average joe however will love flashy blinky shinny things. It's about melding them both together into a package that everyone can enjoy...

Rando - Thankl you! I am having fun making this XB...MY XB.
HIX - I hear you. One thing I learned a long time ago about people that talk SMACK....that's all they got.
" A true enthusiast will notice the small things and see how well they tie the whole piece toge" Excellent point! Something I keep
in mind each as I go forward.

Oh, here ya go, you can have your thread back now. :P
Details! Do the little things on your right that make it unique. You may have to point them out but they are cool to watch people find.

All I can really add to this thread are these few tips:
- CLEAN!! :) I usually do a full detail the day before (or early the same morning, depending on the time I need to travel to the show) and quick detail at the show.. And word of advice, Blue Painter's Tape is your BFFE when traveling to shows. If you're traveling say 2-3 hours or more to a show, blue tape the living hell out of your front end. Anything that faces forward/in the direction of travel, blue tape it. This means the front of your hood, bumper/lips, mirrors, etc. This will prevent rock chips from the travel, and cuts down on the amount of bugs you'll have to clean off at the show.
- Keep your cleaning supplies in a tote or bag of some sort.. Don't store them in your car, or on the ground next to your car.. First of all, you don't want the judge tripping over your bottle of window cleaner, and second, it just looks messy.
- Display any trophies, battle boards, theme fitting displays in a tasteful manner. If you have tropies from passed shows, place them outside of your vehicle to show the judge that you've placed in shows before.. Battle boards are very helpful to the judges, as it gives a run down of all of your mods/sponsors.
- Definitely go see other cars, gather ideas, etc. But when it's announced that the judges will be making their way around, stay near your car.. Otherwise, you're bound to miss the judge, and I've found most judges hardly look at an unattended vehicle.
I could go on forever.. I've got lots of little show quirks. But that's the important stuff I can think of off the top of my head.

when it comes to car shows I say this... FUN FUN FUN. whether I win or not (MOSTLY NOT) :( I have a blast. I'm all over the place talking to everyone I can about their rides and what they have done. :hiding: gives me ideas that way. :hiding: My motto.. K.I.S.S. it. Keep It Simple Stupid.
oh yeah..
and
CLEAN
TILL
YOUR
FINGERS
BLEED.
then clean some more. :p
