hey everyone, I'm new to the site and have been reading a lot of the posts
and advice. Everyone has great advice so I hope you can help.
My tc will be a year old next month and the new car shine is gone. I wash it
about twice a month with the pressure hose at the car wash. i hear about the different types of wax to use. which is the best to give that car show
finish.

I tried Eagle 1 Nanowax - it worked ok.

Turtle Wax Ice Paste wax works great.

The best wax to use between shows is Nu-finish. I waxed my car, and 6 months later water still beaded off, even when the car was dirty.

If you're showing your car, use Meguiars NXT - it's polymer-based like the nu-finish so it lasts forever and applies super easy, but it shines like CRAZY! Best shine I've seen in a wax - I threw away my Meguiars Gold Class to use it.

Buy a clay bar for your car and use it. After a year, I am guessing it could use a good clay barring. Next, you may want to go over the car with a light polish to take out any light surface marring your car has accumulated after a year. It will really make it shine a lot more if you do this before waxing. After that, wax it. Personally, I love Maguire's NXT Tech Wax.

if you really want it to shine, do a full clay bar and polish. If you just wanna wax it, use Meguiars NXT.

Really?!? I've not tried the NXT, but I swear by the Gold Class...hmmm..May have to try NXT next.

OK dumb question, what is and how does a clay bar work? What's it even look like? Insert dumb joke here.......

Thanks, after reading that web site the bar kind of sounds like rubbing compound. I remember I used rubbing compound before and f**ked up the paint on a car...years ago though and I didn't know what the hell I was doing.

Thanx for the replies. It really helps. Has anyone hear of Zaino wax and have
you ever used it? I was recommended to me, but it is expensive.

Z wax is supposedly the best retail wax out there as far as caranuba compounds. I've never tried it because I don't feel like putting that much money into a caranuba based wax.

The only thing I didn't like about Meguiars gold class is that it's caranuba based, which means it lasts maybe a week max. I could never get my car to stay shiny. Now that polymer based wax has hit the market, I'm never going back. I don't get the same shine with my nu-finish as I did with the gold class, but that's why I use the NXT wax - shines like gold class, and lasts about 16x longer.

Waxes are generally for protection first and surface finish or shine second.

You're right - the reason polymer based wax lasts so long is because it's significantly stronger/tougher than caranuba wax. A lot of people argue that polymer waxes don't protect as well against UV rays and fading, but I guess that's something I'll have to see for myself. I can't imagine anyone would develop a wax that allows UV fading.

Yeah even the first week I had my car I used the Meguiar's clay bar on it... it had the shine, but not the feel. Just with the transport of the car, they don't put them in a fully covered trailer, and beings it does come from Japan, there was a lot of crap in the paint (and I have Blizzard Pearl so the little black spots showed REALLY bad). It was embedded in the clear coat, so thank god it all came out with the clay. But I haven't waxed it yet and the water still just falls off. But then again I had the Simonize protective wax put on at the dealership when I bought it. But then I redid it when I clayed it bc it took it off.

Buy this:

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/meg-a-2116.html - $5
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/meg-g-12718.html - $15
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-dwa-2.html - $4
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/mf-106-3.html - $11

I don't know if you are familiar with polishing and waxing a car or not(I'm guessing not otherwise you would wash your car at your house instead of at those pressurewash things, so Ill kinda try to explain it a little bit.

You just squirt a little of the polish onto one of the applicator pads, then rub it in to a part of the car(I do my tC in sections: Hood, front bumper, right fender, left fender, right door, left door, right rear pannel, left rear pannel, trunk lid, rear bumper). Just rub it in gentely, then clean it all off with the microfiber cloth after its glazed over a little bit. Then do the same thing with the wax. After its done, go over the FULL car one last time with a clean microfiber and just rebuff the entire car.

It really helps to wash the car regularly and it does matter what you wash it with. I suggest buying some carwash and a couple buckets, wash mitts, and a chamos and maybe a water blade and starting washing the car at your house..

If your paint is really bad you should probably use a claybar. I havn't ever used one but my dad has and it made a huge difference on his car..

I used the polish and wax I linked you to on my tC and here are some pictures of it:

touchless car washes(pressure washers) are the best scam ever, put money in, wet your car until it looks clean, drive it home and notice it did nothing. But instead of blaming "touchless car washes", blame yourself, for being so gullible. If you care about your car, you will never again take it through the works special at your local car wash.:naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty: :naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naug hty:

I use tech-wax on my BCP tC. It brings out the color very well. I think it looks better on darker colors than it does on light colors. The shine doesn't last especially long, but water beads off it for a month. I wouldn't know if it lasts longer than that, because that's the longest I go W/O waxing it

I had to edit my message. It's actually been like 6 months since I've waxed (or washed for that matter) it. Don't be mad at me; I'm deployed.

Ice works HELLA good!!!!

Ice really isn't all its cracked up to be.. The wax is decent but the new stuff they are putting out is pretty much crap.. The polish isn't good, the liquid claybar is a joke, and the carwash itself is decent but dosn't bubble as much as other carwashes.

As far as the walmart stuff like ice, go with Meguair's.

I am about to start working at Miles Autospa(local HIGH end car detailing place) and will be getting all Groitt's garage products AT COST.. I'm so exicted. I'm also going to be getting rims, lowering, and exhaust, all at cost..

edit: Just waxed my car with Meguiar's NXT Tech wax:

NXT ALL THE WAY!! I did mine before an auto show this weekend and looking at another scion of the same color, they both where shiney as hell but in the reflections, it was like the difference between regular TV and HDTV. You could actually count the blades of grass in the reflction on my tC. And it is alot easier to aply and remove the NXT then the other waxes i have used. I will let you know how long the beading action lasts.

Don't worry, I won't be using any walmart shit like NXT any longer. I will be using good stuff(Groit's Garage).
