When I am listening to music in my tC, on certain bass hits, the speakers make a loud, sort-of obnoxious pop. I'm guessing this is because the head unit in the car is over-powering the (crappy) stock speakers...Although this is usually only in the front speakers, it's still annoying... I just don't understand why scion wouldn't match the speaker watt cap. with the head unit... baffling. Anyone else have the same problem??

most likely they are blown, also you could check which setting the HU is on, just hold down the SSP button till tc/xa/xb shows up

its probably the speaker hitting the plastic on the door. take off the panel and if it still rattles then you know its a blown speaker

It's not blown... trust me... I've been doing some research and found out that it basically happens because the head unit pumps too much wattage for the stock speakers to handle, therefore exceeding the max watt capacity. I'm about 99% sure that's whats happening. Plus if they were blown, it would just be a constant rattle. What I'm saying is that it pops whenever the bass hits hard, although I will try taking the plastic cover off. But still, am I the only one who has this problem?

I really want to go, but I have to work until 5:30, so I doubt I will be able to. I've heard of people switching out their stock speakers for higher quality speakers, and I may consider doing that... I'll pm you if I can go.

you could just fade the music to rear a touch and this should take care of your problem...its a normal problem with front speakers they are made to handle massive loads of bass.
I have the upgraded jbl aftermarket...160 watts...i dont c how thats an upgrade but my problem is with the rear speakers, they rattle and crackle! They suck, ima get a 260 pioneer setup!!! Also, if its on feel, the bass is geared towards the back, and if u have it set on xa (which is the nicest when it comes to sound)......it will rattle against the side of the car its cool and all....but the speakers suck!

had a problem with this also...took it to a dealer twice....said there is nothing they can do....they tried getting a new head unit....didnt help.....took it 2 a different dealer...they took the time to look at it and figured that my right rear speaker was blown....which caused all speakers to be effected...i wouldnt have guessed it was blown by the way it sounded but it was they got the part order and fixed it right away i tested it with bass all the way up as high as i could go....no problem no pop or crackle.....it might be worth taking it in to your local dealer because it is all covered under warranty still...

You can make pretty much any speaker distort if you play it loud enough. The speaker will either be overpowered or underpowered...either way it will distort. It has nothing to do with the stock head unit and/or the speakers.
In many cases, giving speakers more power will help prevent distortion. The head unit is only pumping out 10-15W...throw a 25W or 50W per channel amp and the stock speakers will sound a lot better and play louder before distorting
The only time you can't make a speaker distort is if you can't turn it up anymore...and that's rarely ever the case
