so like any other person i like to listen to my music with a little bit of bump! however as we all kno the tcs dont exactly have a ton of room for a system when u need the room to carry stuff around...
so wat i was thinkin of tryin to do is replacin the factory sub with somethin like n alpine or jl but keepin everything in the factory sub box under the carpet and runnin n amp n all that stuff off the factory head...
now the problem isnt installin cause ive installed systems in just about everyone of my friends cars
the problem is not knowin if the set up will work in the factory sub box...
anyone have any insights?!?!?
thanks ahead of time for ur info

I doubt that it will give u the air space needed running it like that. However i have seen custom flush mounts thats are where your spare tire is but that will mean no spare.

First off I have to ask are you lookin to go more for bass, or for SPL? I wouldn't recommmed putting an amp underneath the carpeted floor where the spare tire is. Reason being, an amplifier needs air to breathe and stay cool. The cooling fans that come with an amp isn't enough to keep the amp from over heating and shutting down or worse catching your ride on fire. The only thing I know that you can do is buy multiple cooling fans. I would suggest building a simple, clean subwoofer box thats either aeroported or slot ported. Plus its all going to depend on whether or not you want to run a single 10 or 12'' sub, or more. The more subs you run, the more cubic feet of MDF your going to need and the more space its going to take up in the rear hatch. If you don't want to use MDF you can go fiberglass as well. If your looking to have more area room in the hatch, I would suggest mounting your amp, and capasitor to the side, or top of the speaker box, or making amp rack and mounting that in the corners. If your going with an amp thats push 1000watts or more of power, I would suggest getting atleast a 5farad cap, a stock battery will not support the power or the load your amp will be putting out. In some cases having the stock alternator that puts out 110-120amps overhauled or putting in another battery to support the added load. Optima and Kinetic makes some damn good stuff.

I have also been wondering this same thing and over the winter since i dont have a heated garage I have been figuring out how to build what your talking about come spring without having to sacrifice the spare tire or room. I am going to be building a fiberglass box once it is warm enough to. The problem I have ran into is that I want to get an Alpine type R 10in sub but they are deeper than stock height of the current sub box in the tc. Also another problem is where do you run the amp? Right now I have my current amp sitting on mdf board cut in a circle that snaps into my spare tire. It doesnt over heat and I went on a 14 hour drive with music bumping the whole time. This is also a smaller amp only 250 watt. What I am thinking of doing for the new amp is keep it the way it is now but replace the carpet on top with either some wood or plexiglass and drilling out holes or long ovals for air to vent on it but so when you place items on it the amp wont get hurt. This should also make up for the extra room the sub will be sticking up just have to find a way to get that covered. I will post up some drawings I have once I get my scanner up and running.

yea im lookin to run a single 10"...i kno a few websites that sell car audio crap pretty cheap so im gonna b lookin on there for some shallow subs to hopefully fit the ddepth of the factory box n if not just go from there...thought on amp placement were to make it a floater in one of the rear corners closer to the hatch so i wouldnt have to deal with the while over heatin deal aint not really lookin for nothin more then maybe a 600wat max....im about to go buy the cheapo stuff from walmart for a test run on how i can do this then once i find out exactly wat i need/can do go with the bigger bang for the bucks like alpine,jl,memphis i dunno yet w/e i can get my hands on for the money i have
i mean at worst ill just through a slim fit box in the back n lose some space but that deff wat im trying to avoid
if anyone come up with some more ideas or i find that my set up will work ill b glad to let yahs kno

The one suggestion I'd make is do not mount the amp to the sub box. It'll protect the amp from added jostling and vibrations from being attached to the box. If you're looking to save space fiberglass is really the only way cause you can form it to the shapes you want. Also helps you avoid losing your spare. Jl makes a nice thin/shallow sub that still bumps good. In scions I've done installs on I've attached the amp to the underside of the passneger seat in all makes. In the new xbs I've put it under the back bench seat. So just throwing the suggestions out there.

That's why I actually atatch it to the underside of the seat
