Hi all,
I've got a 2004 box w/motegi 18" running 225 x 40 x 18" tires. I am at stock height and get a tiny bit of tire rub if I crank the steering wheel all of the way over either way. I am wanting to put a drop kit on but I am worried that I will have more probs w/ the tire rub. My tires are new so I can't just swap tires but really want to drop this thing. any suggestions?

Rubbing in the front? I did the ghetto method and sliced off my splash guards with a utility knife.

First off whats the width of the rims? 2nd whats the offset.. sounds like a +48 offset or somthing...
You can put spacers to space the wheels out some.

The rims are Motegi RT5 18" x 7.5" / +45.00 mm offset, 6 in backspace. Sorry for not posting all the details. Oh and yes,it is the front wheels. they are rubbing in the rear of the inner fender well at full turn. I am at stock height. I want to go down about two inches but I don't want to make it worse. They just barely rub now.

Easiest thing get wheel spacers to push the wheels out to almost flush with the outter fender... or get new set of fronts with like a 35 or 30 offset. Then you should be good.

So what you are saying is that if he got a 10mm or 15mm shim he would be good to go ( two new rims for the front would cost a lot more).

Personally I am running 225/35/18 @ +42 ofset dropped 2" on goldline lowering springs and I have no rubbing issues.
The 5% difference in tire diameter must be all it takes to cause rubbing problems.

the 40 series tire is gonna be your prob... but what you have to look at is where the horizontal center of the wheel will sit in the fender well when you drop it...
I had 225-35-20s on mine and didnt have any rubbing because of how low i was...

DAMN! No rubbing at all? Even in turns... on what? Air ride? All the way down?

no rubbing at all.... at a dead stop.... it would hit the bumper at full lock... till what it hit was ground away....

on my bagged xb i used to have 17s and they would rub when i lowered it to much the i did some trimming and removing and by the time i was down i could drive 35mph on a good smooth road all the way down with the 17s and yes it road like ass and yes i had to air it up to turn of course but i always did the drop and roll at shows and parking lots
get rid of the inner fender wells and trim the lip on the fender and bumper and ull be good have any of you guys heard of randode he has a 05 xb on 20's and still laying body and can drag body with no rubbing

Who recomended that tire size. For xBs running 17s the 2 best sizes are 205/45 and 215/40. You might be alright with spacers but make sure they have the hub edge so the hub rings still center the wheels. You might also have to add longer wheel studs.
