Got my Bi-Xenon HIDs in from MENG today, put them in tonight with the awesome assistance of iaminsider! Thanks Pete.

Figured I'd give those thinking about it a DIY. Not a hard job, but it is tight in there, about 1 to 2 hours max if you include hiding all the wiring and Ballasts.

Here is the kit as it comes from MENG Motor Sports, even includes gloves for handling the bulbs.

The bulbs have metal housings over them that look like this...

http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww250/w_kary/MetalBulbShrouds.jpg

We installed them with the housings on and there were some very odd lighting patterns, so we took them out, removed the metal housings, just two tiny phillips head screws in each and they pull right off... the results with them off was dramatic. Definately want to remove them for use in the xD!

To start you need to unplug the stock wiring harness from the back of each HL, remove the dust cover, just pull it away from the edge of the light housing, it is black rubber. Inside of the HL assembly is a retaining spring. Looking down on the HL the release is on the left hand side of each HL, so towards the engine on the drivers side and towards the fender on the passengers side. There is a loop of silver spring metal about the diameter of a standard paper clip, push in on this gently, then down, it pops out of the holder and then pivots around the bulb towards the right. Once moved over you can simply pull the stock bulbs straight back and out. Here are the instructions from the xD service manual.

http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww250/w_kary/xDHLRemoval.jpg

Once those are out, place the HID bulbs in the same orientation as the stock bulbs came out, there are three metal tabs that sit into recesses, they will only go in one way. Hold the bulb in place, rotate the retaining spring back to the left and push in and up to secure them in place. (This is the most difficult part of the job as it is cramped).

Remove the rubber dust covers from the stock bulbs and thread them back into place over the three wires coming out of the HID bulbs, then slide back onto the HL housing. You will probably want to seal the ends over the wires with Electrical tape as the opening that was over the bulb end on the stock bulbs is too small to fit over the end of the HID Bulbs.

The wiring instructions are pretty straight forward. You need to hook the 20 amp fused feed directly to the positive terminal on your battery. Next to that is the main ground, I grounded the main and the ground for the drivers side HL to the same bolt on the fender behind the battery.

You can't really plug the wires in the wrong spots as the connections are not interchangeable.

There is one three pronged connection on the drivers side that is different from all other connections, this plugs into the drives side HL harness where the stock bulb was plugged in.

Make your connections to the Ballast and the HID bulb on the Drivers Side, run the connections and ground wire for the passenger side across the car, I grounded the passenger side to the engine mount bolt. Make your connections to the passenger side ballast and HID bulb. Turn em on.... if they do not work, you may have the connections to the Ballasts reversed, as the connector will go on either direction, flip them over to correct this.

Here is the wiring diagram..

Passenger side all wired, you can see the three connection to the HID bulb just above the radiator cap, the ground is to the bolt right in the center of the picture and the Ballast is hanging there waiting to be hidden.

Drivers side all wired up, The Ballast is sitting on the fuse box, the red wire with the red fuse holder in the lower left corner is the power feed going to the positive terminal on the battery. The wires are grounded to the bolt you see just behind the upper left corner of the fuse box. At eh lower left corner of the fuse box, you see the white connector with the black connector going into it, that is the hook up from the harness to the stock head light harness.

Thanks for the write up! This should definitely help a lot of people that are curious about the install. Bi-xenon kits usually scare people away because of the extra grounding connections. Thanks, this will help clear things up =]

No problem Tony. Yeah, the direct ground for each bulb and the relay harness itself seems like a lot, it isn't. Very easy to reach multiple grounding points on the xD the harness is more than ample and well made. Many of the issues with HID "Plug N Play" installs is figuring out the ground. Having a separate, solid ground for each point is great!

Thanks Brian!

one question, the scatter. do you get a lot of high beamers since you removed the bulb shrouds?

i'm looking at a 6K HID kit from HIDextra.

thanks for the tips and instructions!

Look at your headlight housings, xD's have a diffuser built in already, the shroud makes some miserable geodesic patterns. Once you look at how our headlights are designed, it will make sensed... Have not adjusted them yet, need to for sure and not one Brights flasher to date...

I'm really enjoying them. Update, I finally adjusted them. Still not one driver coming at me has flashed their brights. But some I was following were moving over and then getting behind me and flashing them, so I adjusted them down. No issues since....

Thanks for updating us! Keep in mind that also if your vehicle is lowered, the glare becomes even less of an issue.

i got a question... you said you adjusted your headlights. How do you do that?

If you open the hood, on the corner of the headlight housing you will notice a white plastic screw head, takes a phillips screw driver. Just turn it to the left to go down and the right to go up.... Or possibly the opposite. It's obvious once you start, they move pretty quick. Park on a flat surface about 20 feet from a wall and just watch where they are hitting.

As for glare, not an issue. I pulled the bumper off prior to heading to Sanitarium and hid all the ballasts and wiring behind it. We drove 2300 miles round trip, in fog, rain, mist, darkness. The lights were amazing, great visibility and I did not have one car flash their lights at me.

Great product guys, well worth the money!

I was still installing mine when the xD put theirs on this weekend. I didn't think to check to see if her's hadthe bulb covers still on or not.

If so, it's a quick fix, pop em back out of the housing and two tiny screws.

Go to the 6th photo down from the top. Look at the lower right hand corner, just above the grey plastic harness you will see a white plastic circle, thats the adjusting point, look closely you'll see the phillips head pattern in the top of it.
