i have an 05 tc manual, with about 57k miles on it. ever since i bought it (27k miles) 5th gear would always grind. if im easy on it, its ok. but when i wanna get up and move i throw it in 5th and it goes in but grinds.

also grinds downshifting into 1st, like when i approach a stop sign, ill depress the clutch and put it in 1st so i can take off right away. sometimes i can feel the gear turning, sometimes it grinds, sometimes it just kicks back and wont go in.

i dont really have any problems with 2-4. they do sometimes, but i think that because i dont fully depress the clutch.

someone told me the the syncros are not aligned, any thoughts on that?
i really dont know much about the mechanical operation of trannys so please dont get too complicated

This is a known issue. I spoke with 2 Scion Dealerships and they both denied it. My suggestion is to bring it in. My car has 62K and I'm more than sure they won't fix it. So i'm just going to drive it till it breaks...btw: only shift to first form a dead stop. that's what first is for. If you want to do a rolling stop just go to second gear. Also, I use royal purple as well. Its awesome.

i dont know where i heard it, but someone said that the clutch throw out bearing might need to be adjusted farther out.
