Not sure if you have fixed this yet but here it is.
Right after you turn on the ignition while holding the reset button on your odometer you will notice that the odometer display will show 5 bars. Each bar corresponds to 1,000 miles. As each bar disappears, the interval will increase (0 bars = 5k, 1 bar = 4k). Release the reset button at the interval you desire.

i think that is for the maintenance light. For the check engine you either have to get a code reader and delete them. They might not comeback on or if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it a couple of minutes later. If you don't have a code reader take it to a autozone and they will read the codes for you for free. I would suggest to get this done to see what it is just in case it has nothing to do with the axle. If it does take it back to the mechanic or if you feel confident enough check all the sensors yourself.
btw. How did you break your axle?

Shouldn't they have turned off the light when they replaced your axle? Supposing you had it done at a dealer.

Yep, take it to an AutoZone, O'Reilley's, Advance, etc. Most of those places will pull your codes for free and reset your CEL.

Whats weird is I really cant think of anything that a broken half axle would've caused a cel. Maybe if it was passenger side it hit and damaged the secondary 02 sensor/wiring. But more than likely I could see a broke half axle damaging a wheel speed sensor - which wont trigger a cel - itll cause the abs and/or brake lights to come on.

It probly just hit a sensor or pulled a wire loose. A basic code reader will tell you right where your problem is and where to look.

You might want to read into this one a little more. The o2 sensors both bank 1 and 2 are in line before and after your CAT. What's the code? Most of the time, it's not the CAT but one of you o2 sensors.
However, if it is your CAT, you might as well find a decent header for sale and install. Problem solved except the CEL you'll throw in in Bank 1 Sensor 2 which is an easy fix.
Important thing is to find out the exact code and google it. You will find many tech articles which will point you in the right direction. Better off finding out what others said and not just swapping parts on a whim. Sensors are tricky and picky. A drop of water can destroy them.

if it is the cat, search ebay. i sold my stock header for $80 on there. i see them all the time.
