well i was going down the highway and a 18 wheeler tossed a rock cracking my windshield but it was like only 1 inch by .5 the size of a quarter i guess and today i took it into the dealer to have the oil changed and got it back and it was cracked all the way to the center from the left hand upper corner the took no blame for rolling up my windos and parking it in direct heat :( they did tell me for the anguiah i would get a non oem windshield installed for 175 thats supposed to be at cost and free labor.... word of advise if your shits cracked always leave a small breather in your windows and tell who ever uses your car....:md::doh:

$175 is a great deal, I know that doesn't help much though.

At least you know it was a rock hit that did it.
My windshield cracked starting at the upper middle behind the mirror and arcing down to the left. No reason for it!
I know for sure there was no rock hit since it was only 1 week old and I was the only one to drive it since it was bought.
Stealer would not help in any way, too bad - so sad:boohoo: was the reaction.
NO chip no nothing -just a crack. Others had complained of a similar problem on the forums I posted on, not many- but a few. Same deal, no hit just a crack.
Lucky that in South Carolina, Insurance covers complete cost of windshield replacement.

your insurance should cover your windshield, just go to a shop that pays your $100 deduct, alot of them do nowadays

Toyota has had a lot of problems with the '06 xB winshields chipping and cracking.
mine cracked in the exact same place and i took it to the dealer i bought it from and asked to speak to the service manager. after i complained to him, he agreed to replace it under warranty. can't gaurantee the same will happen for you but it might be worth a shot.
of course, i really like the dealer i bought mine from. i feel like they've always been straight with me.

that's balls! mine was broken/cracked twice when i owned my 1st gen. it just seems like the windsheild is in the perfect place for rocks. so, operate and lower the hell out of it. that'll keep those damn rocks away!!!!!

Mine cracked on it's own as well without any rocks hitting it. I think at the time it had less than 5K on the odometer. The service manager automatically said it was a rock chip...I said BS...cracked on it's own.
I had to fight with these guys but in the end they did replace it under warranty.

for what it's worth,
i was told "no" by the service writer too but i demanded to see the service manager and even he said "no" at first but i wasn't taking no for an answer and once he realized that, he agreed to replace it. they are going to do whatever they can not to replace it but if you really push the issue with the actual service manager and not just the writer, you will probably get a lot further.
it may also help your case to mention that you've talked to many other people who've had the same problem.
anyway, it may be worth a another shot or also try another dealer. hope it works out for you.

ya know my windshield did the same thing. I was driving down the highway a rock hit it, started out small and know is the length of the whole windshield(verticle). My estimate for getting replaced came to $300.00. It still isn't fixed...
P.S. mines an 06' @ 36K

I am in the process of fighting with the dealer right now. Going to meet with the service manager for the fourth time on Friday. Going to make and appointment with the factory rep too.
This whole windshield thing is crazy. We had no rock, it just cracked on its own in the driveway.

I just got off the phone with the dealer and they are called stress cracks. You should most def get that replaced for free.

We told the dealer it was a stress crack and brought in printouts off the web of other people with the exact same problem. They imediately did the stupid pen test. The only guy that can feel the "rock chip" is the head service manager. I have checked it out in detail, there is no rock chip. The crack is clean from top to bottom. The place where the pen catches is at a sharp turn in the crack that is also really wide. I have never seen a crack that seperated to almost half a millimeter!
Now I think they are trying to ignore my calls. I have left messages with several service managers and have gotten no response.
We will not quit!!!

RIGHT ON!! THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT!!
Same thing happened to me but I couldn't even see the original rock chip so I thought it was fine. Later that afternoon after it was in the blazing heat I had a almost a 24 inch crack up my windshield. I got it replaced by Auto Glass Center in CR with pretty good warranty installed for $270. It sure sucks when it happens.

TOSTAPANE,
If you have to, go to the regional toyota sales rep and raise hell. That usually gets it done, at least it worked for me when a Ford and a Honda I owned gave me probs and the dealers were a A--holes about it!:fu: The Ford guy got me a replacement car!!!!:moon:The southeastern regional rep for American Honda shoved it up the dealers a-- on the phone w/me IN THE DEALERS OFFICE!!!!!:mrviolet: He had to completely replace the front brakes for nuthin..

My '06 xB has 7,580 miles on it. Around mile mark 6,200 a rock hit the windshield and left a very small chip (plus two 'primer specs' on the front hood). The chip has not traveled yet, but with Florida's summer kicking in, these posts sure open my eyes to the need to fix it before the heat sets in.
It seems to me that the vertical rise on the windshield, tries to make debris go threw it, instead of bouncing off of it.
We could be onto something big.? :blink2:

had a rock hit mine, and never had any problems with it spreading. Then, the ice storm we had in January, I started the car, cranked the defroster without even thinking of the chip, and it went about 90% of the way across the windshield. $100 deductible later and it's fixed. Had to take it back after the All Scion Show in Ames because the windshield "slipped down" before the seal had time to set and it leaked, but otherwise, no big deal.
